Joanne Leathers, a Pinner mum of 3 children (all at West Lodge Primary School), was inspired to start exercising in February so that she kept off the weight she had lost as a result of a dieting plan.
She joined outfit4u.co.uk, an outdoor exercise class based in Pinner Memorial Park. At the first training session she was out of breath after about 5 minutes, but after attending a few more classes and improving her fitness decided to add to her exercise regime.
She began running after dropping the children at school in the mornings. She then decided that she needed to set herself a target to keep her focused on exercise. Another Pinner mum mentioned that she was doing the Blenheim Palace Half Marathon and so Joanne has signed up for it.
She found a half marathon-training plan in a running magazine and started following it religiously. Training took a bit of a dip during the school summer holidays, but as soon as the school term started back in September she got back into it.
On Sunday 2nd October, Joanne, ran the half marathon with lots of support from family and friends. She was really keen to complete it in under 2 and half hours and eventually finished it in 2h 16m raising over £300 for the British Heart Foundation.
Inspired by her newfound love for fitness Joanne is now training to be a personal fitness trainer so she can help other Pinner mums gain from her experiences. Watch this space!
